Perfect for those with older TV'S.
Over the past year or two a couple of people in the family found themselves in this situation. They owned an older TV that was in perfect working order but their DVD player died on them. They went out and purchased a new machine that cost in the vicinity of $100 and when they attempted to hook it up to their old TV they discovered much to their chagrin that the new player was not compatible with their old TV. In recent weeks my wife and I found ourselves in this exact situation. Since I am technologically challenged I posed a question on the Amazon Discussion Board as to the best course of action to solve our problem. I got my answer from a very kind and knowledgeable gentleman who recommended the Sony DVPSR210P DVD player. The machine arrived yesterday and I could not be happier. I was able to hook it up in just five minutes. Voila! Problem solved. Sometimes simple is much better. This unit may not have all of the bells and whistles some may be looking for but for us it proved to be the perfect solution. Easy to install, compact, simple to operate and the price is right to boot. Very highly recommended!

Very good simple dvd player
I bought this just to play the few dvds that I still have hanging around. I have an older TV, probably from about 2010, so I really can't comment on screen or audio quality. However, the player itself was a breeze to set up and get going with. Very straightforward to operate, and played my test dvd well.

No issues so far for this basic entry level DVD player
This review is for the SONY DVP-SR210P DVD Player. I have not had any problems with this DVD player. It is a basic, entry-level CD/DVD player. Priced in the $30-$40 range, it does what it needs to, play DVD, DVD-R, CD, and CD-R. I did not test DVD+R. The player also has parental control which lets you lock out DVDs with specific ratings (G, PG, R, NC-17) from being played. I'll update as necessary. Included: A/V Cables (Red-White-Yellow), Remote Control with 2 SONY AA Batteries, Manual. SIZE & CONNECTIONS: This DVD player is very lightweight. It measures 10.5"W x 8"D x 1.5"H. The power cable is 56" long (4" short of 5 ft). Connections on the back are: Component Video (Green-Red-Blue) or Standard Video (Yellow), and Standard Audio (Red-White). There is an Orange Digital Out Coaxial port. There is NO HDMI on this model. You need to get the 510 model if you want HDMI. When powering up, it takes 3 second to turn on, press the Eject button on the remote, and it takes another 3 seconds for the tray to eject. When ejecting, the front door pushes down as the tray slides out. The tray feels a little flimsy and is just barely recessed for the DVD. The remote feels comfortable in my hands, but it's not illuminated so seeing in the dark is difficult. The batteries are genuine SONY batteries but feel lighter than other AA batteries. The remote can be used for a SONY TV as well. DVD Options: By pressing Display on the remote twice, the following options become available: Zoom (zooms in on picture), Camera Angles (if DVD has multiple angles), Custom Picture Mode(Standard, Dynamic, Cinema) commonly found as a TV option, and also Sharpness Option. The Custom Picture and Sharpness option make a minor adjustment to the picture colors and sharpness. There are individual buttons for AUDIO and SUBTITLE to easily cycle through those options. FF/RW: You can almost smoothly play at these slow/fast speeds: 0.6x, 0.8x, 1.2x, 1.4x. Fast-forward options are seconds per second: 2.5, 5, 15, or 60. This player works for me and has not given me any problems yet. I would have preferred a slightly longer power cable, and quicker loading, but for the price it accomplishes the basics. Rating 4.75. UPDATE: I wanted to add some information from questions that people had asked. Q: Does this player show the time passed on the front? A: This player does not show the time that has passed on the front of the DVD player. The only thing on the front is the green LED light to signify it is on. No digital text at all. In order to get the TIME, press the TIME/TEXT button to view the time on-screen, either in TOTAL time or CHAPTER time. Q: Does the player advance one frame at a time? A: Yes. Press pause, and press the advance button to go one frame at a time. Or the replay button to go back one frame at a time. Going forward is always smoother and faster.

This Sony product like all others, no matter the price, is top quality. Do not let the low price fool you! The Durable Remote control is a plus, and even batteries are included! The Construction of Top Quality Plastics and Metals come together to form a beautiful design. You can preform the following options while viewing movies, or listening to CDs as well; Fast Forward, Rewind, Slow Play, Fast Play, Pause and even use the included Remote to control volume on a connected Home entertainment system. At just $50.00 this would have been a Great Product at a Great price! But for just $29.98, this is not just good, its bloody AMAZING! What in the world are you waiter for, GO BUY THIS DVD PLAYER, RIGHT NOW!

Excellent quality for such a low price
We needed a small DVD player when our television in the kitchen which had a built-in DVD player died. We had a replacement TV but it did not have a DVD player. We have used this Sony in a variety of places in the house and both of my daughters have barred it from time to time. It always works flawlessly and is one of the easiest to set up DVD players I have ever seen.Excellent quality for such a low price. One Note... The photo is a little deceiving as it really does have a small footprint and the photo makes it look very long. Check your measurements before ordering

Fantastic.
This was a purchase to play my exercise videos on a TV that we don't actually watch any TV programs on at this time. This works very well and is very simple to install, especially for someone who has issues with most electronics/technology. There is no HDMI connection so that is probably why it is so easy. Simple to use and quick start up each morning. Highly recommend if you are looking to just play DVDs and do not need anything fancy. Looks the same as my other DVD player that does all the fancy Blue ray, Netflicks, Amazon, etc.

Just needed an inexpensive, basic; yet reliable, DVD player and I found it in this one. It works, came with all parts, and batteries were included for the remote. Definitely 5 stars, unless it mysteriously breaks within the next couple weeks.

Excellent DVD player
This review covers the Sony DVPSR210P DVD Player I purchased this DVD player (for the GF) to replace an older unit that failed. I wanted a no-nonsense simplified player without all the so called ‘Bells & Whistles’ a higher priced unit might offer. Out of the box this unit looks real nice and performs great as a 100% dedicated DVD player. For the price you can’t go wrong, but be aware of the differences between using at typical RCA Composite cable vs. using a RCA Component Video with audio cable (See below). This player only includes the RCA Composite option. 720i-1080i HD TV users with Widescreen DVD media: If your TV is 720 HD or 1080 HD make sure you have and/or purchase a RCA Component Video with Audio cable. These come in various lengths. 3 FT and/or 6 FT will probably be all you need to reach the DVD-to-TV connectors. The cable contains (5) RCA connectors at both ends, i.e., RED, Blue, Green (Video) and White and RED (Audio). Also make sure you check the side and/or backside of your TV for an available set of Component connections. This is the only cable type that will support the DVD’s Progressive scan and higher screen resolutions associated with 720 and/or 1080 HD TV’s. Basically Component video is quite similar in what modern day HDMI connectors offer in image resolution up to 1080i, etc.. Of course the DVD media being played also needs to provide a recorded wide screen format as well. Please understand that the Composite video cable (included) only supports the native 480 resolution. This means you can still display and see all of the widescreen video, but its reduced in size and confined within blank borders on the top, bottom, right and left side of your TV screen. I’ve attached a few pictures to show you what I mean. Clearly you can see the difference using the Component video option provides. Next step is to enter the DVD setup menu and access the SCREEN SETUP options. Here you want to do the following after upgrading the included cable. SCREEN SETUP MENU - TV TYPE: 16:9 - SCREEN SAVER (Optional) I choose ON –See User Guide - BACKROUND (Optional) I selected JACKET PICTURE –See User Guide - BLACK LEVEL: OFF - BLACK LEVEL (Component Out) –Leave the default. It will turn ON after activating the below - PROGRESSIVE (Component Out Only): ON - MODE (Progressive): AUTO - 4:3 OUTPUT: NORMAL (this seems to only apply to the startup menu and DVD Disc menu) Overall this is a great DVD player. I compared the image quality alongside my Sony PS3 and PS4. Both platforms are top notch media players using HDMI connectors. The image quality appeared to be the same on all platforms. Sometimes rock bottom basic means less things to go wrong and/or to find faults with. I give this sub-$35 dollar DVD player TWO THUMBS UP! Thanks for taking time to read this review. Exceeds its value, hardiest DVD player I know of!
I have had one like this for years I bought from Wal-mart on vacation. After all of our expensive DVD players went out this one became our number one and has been for a while now. We watch Nemo every night for bed to put my daughter to sleep and the baby sitter also plays nemo through out the day for her all on this $30 player! Sometimes she forgets it on all day and this thing never gets hot. This is the second one we buy, this one is for my daughters room, and any time I need another this will be the one we buy. I cant say enough good things about this player. The only drawback I would have to say is it does take a little while to power on/off and load to play but its worth its weight in gold.

Inexpensive Good Unit
Took a couple minutes to figure out how to get DVD to play. As I have Dish Network, I had to go to menu on tv remote to switch to com. Once I figured that out, no problem. DVD player does everything I expect. Only thing is when I want to go back to watching Dish Network, I have to go into tv menu and switch back, absolutely no big deal. Im happy with this player.
