A lush compendium of posters from Disney theme parks around the globe, along with concept art and lively narrative about the development of the stunning posters!

Anyone who has ever walked through the gates at a Disney Park knows that there is a magical experience waiting to be had on the other side. All of the telltale signs are there: the sound of joyful music pipes across the promenade; the smells of popcorn and cookies waft through the air; and the colorful attraction posters depict all the wonderful rides and shows created for Guests by the Imagineers. Poster Art of the Disney Parks is a tribute to those posters.

Disney attraction posters have been an important means of communication since Disneyland began displaying them in 1956. Not only are they eye-catching pieces of artwork that adorn the Parks with flair and style, they are also displayed to build excitement and disseminate information about the newest additions to the Disney landscape. When the first attraction posters made their debut at Disneyland, one such piece of art proclaimed that Guests could have a "true-life adventure" on the Jungle Cruise.

As evidenced by the evolution of the attraction posters, art styles and design techniques have certainly changed over the years. These characteristics also differ from continent to continent. Posters from Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland exhibit the nuances in presentation that give each Park's pantheon of posters its signature look. But while artistic interpretations and color palettes may vary from Park to Park and from year to year, the spirit of Disney storytelling is a constant that ties them all together.

A great Art book!

This is a great book for any graphic designer or fan of the Disney parks. The book has a brief introduction to each of the sections (split up by each section of the park) and then goes into examples of posters from various parks. The printing is spectacular and the posters really shine when they are printed in the full page. I almost want to get another copy and frame some of them. The only down side is that it ends very abruptly. I thought there was going to be some kind of wrap up and some final words, but it just goes from a page of posters to the appendix. Overall, its a beautiful book and will be a great reference for my art!

Disney Fan Dream

If you're a big Disney dork like me, you need this book. I was ooh-ing and ah-ing through the whole thing. It's pretty huge, so it'd be a good one to put out on your coffee table or simply keep tucked away as a keepsake. The only thing I don't like is that I can't tear these posters out and frame them.

Disney Typography!

I am one of those people who can't get enough of the Disney pixie dust when it comes to typography and art. This book is one of the few books I flip through time and again when I'm needing a little escape. It covers the artwork from the early park days until now -- and I especially enjoyed the posters for attractions as they changed through the decades.

Some of Disney's most underrated great art.

A fantastic art table book for any hardcore Disneyphile, especially those that what that nostalgic feeling of their part visits. Love how they used the different art styles of the times. From Mid-century Modern to today's art style. A great use of study for me, as well just see what kind of poster they had for my favorite rides over the years. Over all just terrific visual candy for the eyes.

An amazing book for the Disney fan, or even those who just appreciate art.

The Poster Art of the Disney Parks is a beautifully done hard cover book that contains full color posters from many different decades and from all of the Disney parks around the world. Anyone who loves Disney can appreciate the amount of detail that goes into even simple seeming things such as these posters. All of them are vividly printed, whimsical, and full of interesting details. The book is quite large in size so you're able to enjoy the posters without pressing the book up to your nose. There is a nice introduction, a section on how the posters are printed, and short introductions for each section. I'd like to mention one word of caution, however. Amazon seems to have a problem shipping this book undamaged. Initially I couldn't even order the book from Amazon since it said that they were examining their shipping method since people were complaining. When that advisory was lifted I ordered the book from Amazon expecting them to have gotten the shipping problem resolved, however the first copy I received was poorly boxed and as a result the book was damaged. I called to get an exchange, and as usual Amazon was excellent about it, and the replacement book was perfectly packaged and arrived in pristine condition. All in all... exceptional and beautiful.

A MUST HAVE

The book is spectacular, a feast for the eyes and the perfect coffee table book for the disney fan or the fan of design. ! - Beautifully illustrated; - Large format book; - High gloss paper; - The images of attraction posters are clear and bright; "After the introduction by Tony Baxter, there are 9 chapters: Here You Leave Today…, Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, New Orleans Square and Liberty Square, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Tokyo DisneySea, and Disney California Adventure. The book ends with some acknowledgements and an Index by Artist." ** FUN FACTS ** - Disneyland used silk-screening to render each poster, but Walt Disney World favored a 4-color lithography process; - An average poster could have 60 colors, take a month to complete, and cost over $30,000 just in the labor alone; - The poster program ended in the 1990’s but started up again in 2001 for the Tokyo DisneySea Park, thanks to the digital age.

GORGEOUS ESSENTIAL BOOK!

Amazon currently has this book "under review" and are only sending folks on to other sellers who offer it at a substantially higher price than I paid Amazon for it less than 2 weeks ago. I can not imagine why. The copy I ordered at a great price from Amazon came only 10 days after ordering it, and that's due in part to a weekend being in the way. The book is MAGNIFICENT! I have always had a special place in my heart for the Disneyland Attraction posters, and a meticulously silk-screened print of my favorite (The original 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA exhibit that was in Tomorrowland from 1955 to 1966) hangs in my living room. This book shares hundreds of them from ALL the Disney parks, reproduced in a glorious art book manner. Look, it's only 144 pages yet weighs over 3 pounds from the heaviness of the glossy paper and the fancy art-house printing of it. Classy and high-quality! This is a wonderful, wonderful book.

Absolutely Beautiful and Very High Quality Book!!

Absolutely beautiful and very high quality book of the attraction posters and poster art in the Disney Parks. The book is printed on quality thick paper stock with stunning posters of various sizes throughout. The color quality is amazing! I was so happy with this book that I would give it 10 stars easily!! I love this book, any true Disney fan would love it too!! I give this book my highest recommendation, its a wonderful book to own if you've grown up with Disneyland!!

When you wish upon...well, you know.

Absolutely stunning book!! A must if you're a Disney fan, or a fan or nostalgic art. The book didn't come shrink wrapped, and there was a small dent in the top corner of the book, which is the only reason I'm giving this 4 stars.

Super look at Disney history

If you love the parks and are nostalgic for the days when Disney's mid-century graphic artists were some of the best in the world, you will enjoy this book. I only gave it four stars, however, because: - There are no artist bios at all! Not ONE single page devoted to Bjorn Aaronson or Sam McKim? Heck, there isn't even a picture of an artist in the whole book. Why? This is a shocking omission I hope the authors remedy for future editions, because without insight into the creators, you gain no real understanding of the artistic process. - It needs more concept art and fewer modern posters. Again, the concept art gives you a window into the process and teases the reader with "what could have been." I know the Disney vaults contain thousands of these preliminary sketches, so why not include at least one example with every iconic poster? I would much see see more examples of this than some of the poorly drawn Toyko DisneySea posters (what were they thinking with the Mermaid Lagoon Theater poster?). In all, a good book to help you retain that Disney feeling, but one which falls short of its true potential.
